In preparation for Feral, I did a number of cast portraits intended at improving the overall look of the characters - the way their faces were drawn, their costumes. Not all of the changes made it through to the final comic pages - most of my experiments with exaggeration didn't work and were abandoned. But many of the portraits themselves turned out rather nicely.
The Sheriff was always tricky. He'd first appeared in a comic from 1994, but I wasn't too happy with his design, so I made him shorter and more angular. Here, exagerration did work, so I kept most of this design.
This was never intended as a full portrait like the other ones, just an indication of what the Sheriff looks like and what he wears, and as you can see, I didn't plan this drawing out right, and ended up with his hat being partly cut off, which is why I drew it again. His costume is based on that of the Sheriff from Maid Marian and her Merry Men, a big source of inspiration for Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan all those years ago.
